Charles “Chuck” Haubiel’s unrelenting focus is to deliver prompt, efficient and sensible legal advice to help his clients achieve their goals. His law practice focuses on advising business entrepreneurs, owners, and executives, as well as commercial real estate owners, investors, developers, landlords, and tenants, on a wide array of issues and matters in his focused practice areas. Mr. Haubiel has represented clients in the manufacturing, construction, real estate, retail trade, leisure, and transportation sectors. His more than 30 years in practice have also allowed Mr. Haubiel to develop contacts with other counsel affording him the capability, if requested, to facilitate the engagement of others in specialized practice areas (examples include personal injury, complex litigation, tax, domestic relations, and environmental law). In addition to his private practice, Mr. Haubiel is the Principal of LeLe Consulting Group, a management consulting firm utilizing a facilitative approach to help organizations increase revenue, reduce expense and clarify strategic direction.
Before opening his own law office, Mr. Haubiel spent 16 years serving in various management positions with Big Lots, Inc., a Fortune 500 retail corporation with annual revenues exceeding $5 billion. He joined Big Lots in 1997 and became vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary in 2000. Mr. Haubiel was subsequently promoted to additional senior executive positions culminating in his appointment as Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer. As CAO, he was responsible for Big Lots’ legal, real estate, human resources, loss prevention and corporate travel departments, while continuing to serve as the company’s general counsel and corporate secretary. Mr. Haubiel was also a member of the company’s executive committee and assisted in charting the company’s strategic direction.
Prior to joining Big Lots, he practiced with the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease LLP in the firm’s Corporate and Taxation groups. Mr. Haubiel has spoken on general business matters, including updates to Ohio Corporate Law, the Role of the General Counsel and providing effective counsel to in-house attorneys. He serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of the Fishman Center for Entrepreneurship at Columbia College.
Mr. Haubiel earned a J.D. from the Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law where he was the Research Editor of the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution. He received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and holds an associate degree from The Ohio State University’s Agricultural Technical Institute.
